The New Charter of Aljezur, granted by King D. Manuel I, on June 1, 1504, was the target of a safeguard intervention.
This historical document was recently on display at Espaço +, as well as the Charter of Aljezur, granted by King D. Dinis on November 12, 1280.
After this initiative that marked the “Commemoration of International Archives Week”, within the scope of the Municipality of Aljezur's accession to the Algarve Archives Network, a conservation assessment of the state of the Novo Foral was carried out, which showed some signs of degradation.
Among them: «deformations and small stains on the surface of the parchment and problems with chemical stability in the hardware on the front and back folders, with oxidation of the metallic alloy especially in the decorative elements», explains the Chamber of Aljezur.
