Farcume was a success with «strong public support»

The balance made by the organization is very positive, with an average of 70 to 80 visitors per night

A “strong public support”, in a “very positive” balance. This was the 13th edition of Farcume – International Short Film Festival of Faro which took place from the 22nd to the 24th of September, at the Hotel 3HB Faro, a place with history in the city as it is the space where the Cine-Teatro Santo António was located. 

This year, the Festival featured a selection of 34 short films in the fiction, animation and documentary categories from seven countries.

The balance made by the organization is very positive, with an average of 70 to 80 visitors per night.

«We have a very positive assessment of the 13th edition of Farcume – International Short Film Festival of Faro. This continues to assert itself, year after year, as one of the unavoidable references in the national and international cinematographic circuit, surprising due to the high number of entries, as well as the quality and diversity of the works presented», says Paulo de Oliveira Botelho, president of FARO 1540 – Association for the Defense and Promotion of the Environmental and Cultural Heritage of Faro.

«This is a reason for happiness and a sign of the good work carried out by this selfless team dedicated to the Festival. Farcume, over the years, continues to be a privileged stage for the affirmation of new directors, actors and producers, providing an opportunity to see the world through different lenses, exploring new narratives and perspectives. The public's loyalty to Fracume represents not only a vote of confidence in the quality and relevance of the Festival, but also the recognition of its crucial role in promoting and celebrating independent cinema», he adds.

In the fiction category, the big winner was the short film “Mesa Para Três”, by directors Álvaro García Company and Meka Ribera.

In this category, the jury also highlighted the short films with Honorable Mention: “Fortíssimo”, by director Victor Cesca, “Perder”, by director Borja López Ferrer, “Witness”, by director Aida Tebianian, and “Amarrada”, by directors Pedro Horta and Alexandre Costa.

In the documentary category, the winner was “Marabunta: Hormiga Guerrera”, by Spanish director Samuel Pastore.

The documentaries La Salud Naufraga en la Frontera Sur, by directors Alba Villén and Ignacio Marín, and Caretos da Lagoa, by director Tiago Cerveira, were also distinguished.

In the Animation category, the winner was “La Torrential Melodia”, by director José Luís Saturno.

The jury also highlighted in the Animation category with an honorable mention the short films “Txotxongiloa”, by director Sonia Estevéz, and “A Espuma e o Leão”, by director Cláudio Jordão.

Finally, the jury unanimously awarded the Grand Prix Farcume + to the short film “La dump: La Dignitá Sigla Invisibile”, by directors Guido Galante and Antonio Notarangelo, which aims to distinguish works that stand out in the promotion, dissemination and affirmation of values ​​and principles of dignity and human rights and combating social and cultural inequalities.
