National Maritime Authority helps sailboat on the Arade river in Portimão

Difficult vessel was detected during Maritime Police Day celebrations in the Arade estuary

The National Maritime Authority assisted, yesterday afternoon, October 22nd, during the celebrations of Maritime Police Day and the General Directorate of the Maritime Authority, a sailboat that was in difficulty, on the Arade River, in Portimão.

According to a note from AMN, while navigation was underway on the Arade River, with the Secretary of State for National Defense, Carlos Lopes Pires, the Chief of Staff of the Navy and National Maritime Authority, Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo, and the general director of the Maritime Authority, Vice Admiral João Dores Aresta, the vessel's crew May Blind they detected a sailboat in difficulties, due to the adverse weather conditions that were being experienced.

Elements of the local command of the Maritime Police of Portimão and the Ferragudo Life Saving Station were immediately activated, which, together with two of the vessel's crew, May Blind, helped the sailboat crewman, who was “physically well, without needing medical assistance”.

Members of the National Maritime Authority accompanied the sailboat, for navigational safety reasons, to the marina in Portimão.
