The Municipal Assembly of Faro unanimously approved, on September 25th, the Recognition of the Municipal Interest of the National Road Route 2 (EN2).

«This recognition, which follows a proposal presented by the executive of the Municipal Council of Faro, is the result of a careful analysis committed to valuing our historical and cultural heritage, highlighting the importance of the EN2 as a tourist route found in Faro its final kilometer of arrival, allowing thousands of tourists to visit our city and contribute to the local economy", says the Chamber of Faro.

Estrada Nacional 2, known as EN2, is the longest road in Portugal, stretching over 739 kilometers, connecting the city of Faro to Chaves.

Since its classification as a National Road in 1945, it has played a vital role in connecting different regions of Portugal and promoting local tourism.

In 2016, the Association of Municipalities on the National Road Route 2 (AMREN2) was created, joining efforts to promote and boost the territories crossed by this emblematic road and, in 2019, the Municipality of Faro joined the association, recognizing the potential of this route to boost tourism and the local economy.
