Support will be allocated 790 thousand euros

The support program for cinema and audiovisual projects to mark 50 years of the 25th April Revolution opens today with an allocation of 790 thousand euros, revealed the mission structure on that occasion.

The program, entitled “Cinema for Democracy” and whose regulations and access conditions are on the official website of the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA), was included in the State Budget for 2023 and is the result of a partnership with the Mission Structure for the Commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the Revolution of April 25, 1974.

The application deadline was announced by the mission structure for the first quarter of this year, but the opening is at the end of October and runs until November 17th.

The initiative aims to encourage the creation of films, series, television films, training actions, seminars and film cycles “that encourage the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April Revolution and reflection on its relevance in the construction of current democracy ”.

And three themes are also listed to which candidate projects must be subordinated: “Resistance and the fight against dictatorship”; “The construction of Portuguese democracy and the modernization of the country”; and “Revolution of 1974-1975: the overthrow of the dictatorship; the Revolution (political, cultural, social, economic aspects); decolonization.”

According to the ICA, the budget of 790 thousand euros includes, for example, a maximum ceiling of 275 thousand euros for the production of fiction feature films and first works, and 250 thousand euros for fiction, documentary and animation series.

There is also a phasing of the allocation of 790 thousand euros between 2024 and 2027 and the support to be allocated “cannot be combined with any other support from the ICA or bilateral protocol to which the ICA is a party”.

This line of financing is part of a series of support programmed by the Mission Structure to mark that anniversary, in partnership with the ICA, but also with the Directorate-General for the Arts and the Foundation for Science and Technology.

According to the Mission Structure, by the end of this year the tender line will open in partnership with the Foundation for Science and Technology, aimed at supporting Research and Development projects.

The support program with DGArtes opened last January and selected 45 projects to receive global support of one million euros.
