Close to three hundred doctors are demonstrating today at the Ministry of Health, in Lisbon, in defense of the medical career and the National Health Service (SNS).
«The people deserve the SNS», «We want respect», «Doctors united will never be defeated» or «Costa listen, the rain doesn't scare us», referring to the weather conditions at that moment, are some of the slogans shouted by the professionals of health.
The demonstration takes place on the first of two days of strike called by the National Federation of Doctors (Fnam) and five days after the unions met with the Ministry of Health and a new round of negotiations was scheduled for next Thursday.
Doctors' dissatisfaction has been expressed through strikes and the delivery, by around 2.500 clinicians, of draft declarations of exemption from overtime work, in addition to the mandatory 150 hours per year, which has caused constraints in the emergency services of several hospitals in the Service. National Health.
In the proposal presented to the unions on Thursday, the Ministry of Health foresees a supplement of 500 euros per month for doctors who perform emergency services and the possibility of opting for 35 hours per week.
Fnam had already announced that it will be present in “good faith” at the meeting scheduled by the Ministry of Health for next Thursday, “with the expectation of being able to celebrate a historic agreement, worthy of saving the medical career and the NHS” .
