British sailor in difficulty helped off Castelejo beach

Vessel had fishing gear stuck in the propeller and rudder

The crew of a British-flagged sailing vessel that found itself in difficulties, off Castelejo beach, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, due to fishing gear on the rudder and propeller, he was helped by members of the Sagres lifeguard, yesterday, September 26th, in the afternoon.

The alert to the existence of a sailor in difficulties was given at 18:19 pm, and the boat from the Sagres Lifeguard Station was sent to the scene.

At the scene, it was found that the crew member, a British national, “was physically well and did not need medical assistance”.

«The crew at the Sagres Lifeboat Station towed the sailboat, which had fishing gear on the rudder and propeller, for safety reasons», according to the National Maritime Authority.

After carrying out some tests on the sailboat's steering system, «and after sailing without limitations, escort to Sagres was guaranteed by the crew from the Lifeguard Station».
