Docapesca launched the “PERaia – Raia Study Platform” application to respond to the need for monitoring and studying the Raia Curva (Raja undulata). "

According to Docapesca, this platform will facilitate «the filling out of records by fishing professionals and, simultaneously, the analysis of data by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA)».

The «new platform for monitoring and studying the curved ray constitutes another important step in the digitalization of the fishing sector, allowing for a more rigorous scientific analysis of the presence of this species along the Portuguese coast», he adds.

A app is available for Android and soon for iOS and will collect and process data for scientific purposes.

Although users' anonymity is guaranteed, each professional will have a personal area to consult the history of their records.

This functionality will allow scientific analysis of the presence of the species along the coast, eliminating the manual filling of a paper form, delivered to the auctions and subsequently sent to IPMA.

With the increase in the quantity and reliability of available data, it will be possible to better estimate the status of the curved ray species and issue scientific opinions on the sustainable levels of fishing for this important resource.
