Albufeira Arts and Crafts Center hosts creative workshops

until the end of the month

The Albufeira Arts and Crafts Center will promote creative workshops on Ceramics, Initiation to Macramé – Lantern, Tile Painting and Sewing a Talego, throughout the month of September.

On September 15th, Tuesday, trainer Carla Neto will host the Ceramics workshop, where participants will have «the opportunity to have their first contact with manual ceramics», according to Albufeira City Council.

«The technique covered will be pinching and ballast to create a piece through the technique of pinch, learn how to make a relief tile with decals and paint the piece with engobes. The goal will be to explore textures and create a unique free-form piece,” he describes.

The activity will take place from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and costs 40 euros (material and first cooking included). Registration must be made via email at [email protected].

On September 20th, the center hosts the Macramé Initiation – Lanterna workshop. Desi Cornelisse is responsible for the training, which offers participants the possibility of learning the fundamentals of this weaving technique that involves the use of knots.

Students will learn «how to prepare and start creating the piece, calculate the amount of thread needed, know and make basic and intermediate macramé knots, with the aim of producing a lantern».

The activity takes place from 10am to 00pm, costs 13 euros (material included) and registrations must be made via email at [email protected]. At the end, participants take the performed piece with them.

On the 23rd, from 14:30 pm to 17:30 pm, Graça Martins promotes a Tile Painting workshop, where she will teach «one of the oldest artistic productions in the country (tiles have been produced for 500 years in Portugal)».

The training costs 30 euros, with the material included and registrations must be made via email [email protected].

To end the month, the Arts and Crafts Center welcomes Maria Albertina Jerónimo, for the workshop “Let's sew a Taleigo”.

«In this workshop, participants will learn how to make a taleigo, a cloth bag used to transport goods, store nuts or bread. You will be able to choose the fabrics and create a patchwork composition or just use a fabric pattern. You will also learn how to line the taleigo for a more perfect finish».

The action takes place from 10:00 am to 13:30 pm and from 14:30 pm to 17:00 pm, with a cost of 25 euros. Registration must be made via email [email protected].

At the same time, the Carlos Silva e Sousa Arts and Crafts Center welcomes, every Wednesday, between 14:30 pm and 16:30 pm, the weaver from the ECOS project – Oficina Ecológica de Cooperação Social.

The ECOS project, promoted by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Albufeira, develops and provides innovative activities and actions within the scope of personal and social training, employability and promotion and integration in the community.
