Lagos Chamber supports Blood Donors Association of Barlavento do Algarve

Municipality of Lagos once again reinforces to all its residents and visitors the importance of blood donation

The Lagos City Council awarded a subsidy of 921,19 euros to the Barlavento do Algarve Blood Donors Association, to support the maintenance of its awareness, information and donor recruitment activities, as well as the donation of blood and bone marrow.

The Barlavento Blood Donors Association (ADSBA) is a non-profit association, based in Portimão, which has made an important contribution in the area of ​​health and which responds to several municipalities in the region, including Lagos, which is why it is part of the respective Social Network.

According to the latest information from the entity, there are 714 donors in the municipality of Lagos who have given blood in the last five years, a figure that could increase if they manage to continue their work to raise awareness and recruit donors.

This subsidy will also be used for expenses with insurance, telecommunications, fuel and cleaning and hygiene products essential for the continuity of your work.

Taking advantage of this support, the municipality of Lagos once again reinforces to all its residents and visitors the importance of blood donation.

According to data from the Portuguese Federation of Benevolent Blood Donors, 1000 to 1100 units of blood are needed every day, and currently they are at minimum levels for types A+, O+ and O-, with equal concern for types A- and AB+ .

So, if you are in good health and are between 18 and 65 years old and weigh more than 50 kg, you can contribute to this cause.

From Monday to Friday, between 8 am and 30 pm (or the 16st Sunday of each month between 30 am and 1 pm), ADSBA is present on the 8st floor of CHUA – Hospital de Portimão (reserved parking) or , if you prefer, every last Friday, between 30 am and 15 pm at the association's headquarters in Portimão (corner between Rua Poeta António Aleixo and Avenida 00 de Abril).
