ISMAT and UAlg students raise awareness of “Zero Waste”

Students handed out buckets to the population to separate food waste

Students from ISMAT and the Portimão Campus of the University of Algarve participated in the environmental awareness activity “Zero Waste” by delivering buckets to the population to separate food waste.

The initiative took place within the scope of the Freshman Reception activities program and was attended by more than a hundred students.

For two days, the young people dedicated themselves to delivering buckets, raising awareness among the population of the pilot area of the selective organic waste collection project about the importance of separating their food waste.

The activity, promoted by the academic associations of the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Institute and the University of Algarve, in partnership with EMARP, included two information actions aimed at raising awareness among young people about the urgent need to adopt sustainable practices aimed at reducing, reusing and waste recycling, with the main objective of reducing the volume of resources sent to landfills.

During the activity, the students took on the role of environmental awareness agents, actively promoting the pilot project that aims to transform food waste into natural fertilizer.

«Carrying out this activity allowed EMARP to share fundamental values for the training of conscious and responsible citizens and the high participation of students demonstrated their alignment with the cause of sustainability, revealing an excellent way to start their academic journey», says the Company Municipal Water and Waste of Portimão in note.
