Albufeira hosts the Language Fair today

Partnership between Europe Direct Algarve (hosted at CCDR Algarve) and the Municipality of Albufeira

The Language Fair takes place this Tuesday, September 26th (European Language Day) at Parque do Ribeiro, in Albufeira, with the theme “People in mobility”.

Mentoring is by Professor Manuel Célio Conceição, professor at the University of Algarve and president ex-officio of the European Language Council. The event has the support of the Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commission in Portugal and DGESTER-DSRAL.

«We believe that this event, in addition to having great educational and recreational value, will also generate new and good partnerships, contributing to strengthening the values ​​of the European Union, among which we highlight Inclusion this year», highlights the Coordination and Development Committee Regional (CCDR) of the Algarve.

The event is open to the participation of schools (public, private, international, language, etc.), Academia, municipalities, consulates, cultural associations, foreigners' associations, associations and projects that work on multiculturalism and multilingualism or youth mobility, etc. .

European Day of Languages ​​is celebrated annually on September 26th. Across Europe, 800 million Europeans from the 47 member states of the Council of Europe are encouraged to learn more languages, at any age, in and out of school.

The Language Fair marks the European Day of Languages, celebrated annually on September 26th throughout the European Union and also coincides with the celebration of European Heritage Days and European Sports Week.

It's a celebration of European values, especially diversity, inclusion and solidarity! This year the Language Fair is hosted by the Municipality of Albufeira in Parque do Ribeiro on September 26th between 10am and 20pm with a program for all ages. The XNUMXrd edition celebrates mobile people and the great theme of inclusion.

With 2023 being the EU Year of Skills, the national Agency Erasmus+ Youth will be present in Albufeira with the Roadshow structure – information and competitions about the opportunities that the EU offers to young people between 16 and 35 years old.

The final program of the event is the result of the involvement of all partners and includes, among other activities: exhibition stands, a Multilingual Bibliographic Exhibition, story times in different languages, free reading of excerpts in other languages, speakspeedconnecting, bookTinder, stage presentations, Read Europe (Book presentation).

This year's opening was marked by a parade of flags through the EBS and ES schools in Albufeira.

This year's Tertúlia, whose theme is “Languages, mobilities, inclusion and equity”, begins at 17pm on the 00th, next to the fair stage.

Two Ukrainian refugees are taking part, the honorary consul of Morocco in the Algarve, the representative of EAPN Portugal in the #algarve, the president of CAP of the Albufeira Poente School Group and APEXA. Moderation is by Célio Conceição.

The Multilingual Bibliographic Exhibition is one of the central activities of the Language Fair (this year: “D. Quixote”) and is an invitation to story time, collective readings, dramatization, drawing studio, creative writing.

The initiative counts on the partnership of the Library network in this partnership. The Exhibition will travel, after the 26th, and throughout the month of October – School Libraries Month, through the libraries/schools in the municipality of Albufeira.

The Language Fair celebrates the European Day of Languages ​​and linguistic and cultural diversity as a common heritage of the European Union. The organization of the 2023 edition, European Year of Skills (europa.eu), is a partnership between Europe Direct Algarve (hosted at CCDR Algarve) and the Municipality of Albufeira.
