Pope Francis said today that participants from all over the world at the World Youth Day (WYD) in Lisbon challenge the realization of "dreams of good" and "cultivate yearnings for unity, peace and fraternity".

“In this #WYD, young people from all over the world who cultivate yearnings for unity, peace and fraternity, challenge us to make their dreams of good come true”, said the Pope, in a publication on the social network X (ex-Twitter), hours after arriving in Lisbon for World Youth Day 2023.

Francisco added that the young people who are in Lisbon for WYD “do not walk the streets screaming their anger, but sharing the hope of the Gospel”.

The Pope, the first pilgrim to sign up for WYD, arrived in Portugal this morning and, in addition to visiting Lisbon, for the World Youth Day, until Sunday, he also plans a two-hour visit to the Sanctuary of Fátima in the Saturday, to pray for peace and an end to the war in Ukraine.

More than a million people are expected in Lisbon until Sunday for WYD, considered the biggest event of the Catholic Church.
