The order authorizing the Government to grant financial support to reimburse Portuguese parishes for expenses incurred in 2020 to contain and limit the Covid-19 pandemic has already been signed, announced the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion.
Through the signing of program contracts, 763 parishes in mainland Portugal and 32 in the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira (which represent 26% of all parishes) will benefit from almost 4,3 million euros from the Apoiar Freguesias Programme.
This amount covers 100% of expenses with medical equipment and devices, individual protection equipment, tests, laboratory analyzes and other means of diagnosis, medicines, emergency assistance to the vulnerable population, awareness-raising and signaling actions related to disease prevention, and actions disinfection and availability of disinfectants.
The payments, which were not initially foreseen by the Government, are the result of close work with ANAFRE, recognizing the important role that the
parishes were in the first line of response to the pandemic.
