Fisherman's Festivals return to Albufeira in September

With gastronomy and animation

The Fisherman's Festivities are back in Albufeira, between the 1st and 3rd of September, with food and drinks and entertainment by artists such as José Malhoa. 

At Praça dos Pescadores, visitors can find everything from xerém, to cuttlefish with ink, assorted seafood, horse mackerel, whelk feijoada, cataplana, fish stew and the famous regional sweets, with emphasis on dom-rodrigo and fig cakes , almond and carob.

José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, underlines «that this is one of the most cherished events by the Albufeira community, which is committed to recovering our roots and identity, keeping alive the traditions of the land».

«The mayor also emphasizes that this is a very important moment to bring the community together and to show those who visit us a little of the history of the municipality and the pride we feel in honoring our fishermen, the people of the land and the traditional gastronomy. ».

The Festivities open on the 1st, at 18 pm, with a visit to the event by the mayor, accompanied by members of the council and some representatives of various local entities.

At night, all eyes turn to the stage, which welcomes Adiafa, ambassadors of traditional Alentejo music. Albufeira brings the album “Adiafa – 25 Anos” (2023), which revisits themes made famous by the group, such as “Feira de Castro”, but also new author songs, such as “Arre Burro”. The disc opens with a new version of the theme “As Meninas da Ribeira do Sado”.

The first part of the show is the responsibility of the Albufeira band Duo 64. On Saturday, the 2nd, the Festival is dedicated to the Albufeira Folklore Festival, an event that highlights the wealth of costumes, dances and the most genuine songs of the ranches from different parts of the country.

Performing will be the Folklore Ranch of Albufeira, Folklore Ranch Dances and Songs of Campelos (Torres Vedras), Folkloric Ranch “As Mondadeiras” of Casa Branca (Sousel) and the Folkloric and Ethnographic Group of Almagreira (Pombal).

On Sunday, the 3rd, Tomás Faísca takes over the first part of the evening's show, with a repertoire of Portuguese popular music, which closes with José Malhoa. The popular music singer, record seller in Portugal with more than 3 million albums sold, will bring “Morena Kuduro”, “Ela Quero Três” and “Carimbó by José Malhoa”, among other hits.

This year, for the first time, a show of videomapping, dedicated to the theme of the sea. Between the opening show and the main artist there will always be a projection with sound.

At the same time, when there are no shows, the videomapping without sound until the closing time of the event.
