Feira da Serra breaks record for visitors

In the musical poster, the highlight was for the “Resistência”, João Pedro Pais, Bárbara Tinoco and José Cid

Feira da Serra, which took place from the 27th to the 30th of July, broke the visitor record, receiving around 40 people, in São Brás de Alportel.

Over four days, visitors of various ages and nationalities passed through the enclosure «and had the opportunity to awaken all their senses in the 18 thematic spaces, in the many gastronomic tasting areas and on the entertainment stages, where they could watch more than 60 hours of shows", says the Chamber of São Brás de Alportel.

On the musical poster, the highlight was for “Resistência”, João Pedro Pais, Bárbara Tinoco and José Cid, but there was also space for names such as “DString”, “ArtMusa”, Íris and Luis Guilherme.

«Throughout the Sonoridades Stage, there were many artists present during the four days of the event, while the Young Stage was a true parade of talents, with emphasis on the great moment of presentation of the exclusive Banda Feira da Serra Jovem», says the Câmara de São Brás de Alportel.

The inaugural session was attended by the Secretary of State for Local Authorities Carlos Miguel, among numerous regional and local entities.

«The City Council is to be welcomed because to bet on the Fair is to bet on the local economy, it is to bet on endogenous products and it is to bet on the development of that economy. It brings savings to the inside of the Fair, but also to the outside”, said Carlos Miguel, concluding that “there are four days of promotion of the territory and its activity” and of conviviality.

The inaugural speeches were given by the mayor of São Brás de Alportel Vitor Guerreiro, the president of the Feira da Serra Organizing Committee and vice-president of the Chamber Marlene Guerreiro, as well as the then president of the Algarve Tourism Region João Fernandes, the president of the Coordination and Regional Development Commission José Apolinário and the Secretary of State Carlos Miguel.

«This event is a good example of territorial cohesion because here we want to involve and make known that Algarve that is more hidden, its potential and its riches», said Vitor Guerreiro, assuring that the event stands out «for the valorization of innovation, traditions and the people who were born here and those who chose this region to live, to spend their holidays, but also to innovate and invest».

«It is an event with soul and heart because it is carried out with care and passion», he stressed, also highlighting that it is a young, transversal, inclusive and innovative event that has a local and regional economic impact far superior to the immediate event.

The inauguration of Feira da Serra 2023 was also marked by the presentation of the Feira da Serra cocktail, created by the world champion of after-dinner cocktail 2022, Renato Pires, who was inspired by the star product of this edition: almonds.

The signing of the letter of intent to join the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel in the Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities was another of the moments that marked the inauguration of the event.

The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel joins this association as a producer of olive oil and cork.

The inaugural visit ended with a toast and tasting of Douro wines that were associated with the Feira da Serra within the scope of the initiative “Comunidade Intermunicipal do Douro – Cidade Europa do Douro.

This edition also broke a record for the participation of young volunteers (more than a hundred) who joined the organization to help promote, disseminate, set up and support the event, as well as the many young people who took to the various stages of the Fair.
