district of Faro under orange warning due to heat

Expected maximum is 38°C

the district of Faro, where the temperature today can reach 38ºC, is under orange warning, the second most serious, because of the heat, a situation that will remain until Sunday morning, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

The south coast of Madeira and the island of Porto Santo are also under an orange warning due to hot weather until the early hours of Sunday.

The mountainous regions of Madeira and its north coast have a yellow warning (the third most serious) due to high temperatures.

Also because of the persistence of high temperature values, the IPMA placed the districts of Bragança and Guarda under yellow warning, until 23:00 on Friday, keeping the warning active at least until the end of the day on Saturday in Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Évora and Beja.

In the Azores, the islands of the Eastern Group (Santa Maria and São Miguel) are also under yellow warning, but due to rain.

For today, the IPMA predicts a decrease in the minimum temperature, especially inland, and a small increase in the maximum temperature on the coast of the southern region, being accentuated in the Sotavento Algarvio. The wind will be from the northwest during the afternoon, sometimes being strong on the coastal strip south of Cabo Espichel.

As for temperatures, the minimum will vary between 14º Celsius (Bragança, Vila Real, Guarda and Viseu) and 22ºC (Faro) and the maximum between 24ºC (Viana do Castelo) and 38ºC (Faro).
