“Cinema Lençol” is once again extended, throughout August, in Querença and Salir. There will be 12 cinema screenings, with films that made their mark in Portuguese and Brazilian cinema, as well as classics and two award-winning national premieres.
Every Friday this month, the village of Querença will have a free cinema and on the last two Saturdays, Salir will also have cinema films projected on the sheet, always at 21 pm.
According to the Figo Lampo association, which organizes the initiative, «this year we propose a meeting between generations, iconic films that have marked Portuguese and Brazilian cinema that have in common the unshakable faith of the protagonists and human relationships: we will show classics, but also two premieres national awards”.
On the first Friday, the 4th, in Largo da Igreja Matriz in Querença, the most recent and award-winning animation short film by Cláudio Jordão will be screened, which will also be shown on the 26th in Largo da Igreja, in Salir, with the presence of the author himself.
“O Pagador de Promessas”, by Anselmo Duarte, will be the feature film that opens the exhibition, one of the greatest classics of Brazilian cinema, the only South American film to win the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and also nominated for best foreign film that year by the American Academy.
This feature film will also be shown in Largo da Igreja in Barranco do Velho, on the 19th.
“Os Verdes Anos” and the unforgettable soundtrack by Carlos Paredes, will be screened on Friday the 11th at the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation Stairs, in Querença. The classic Portuguese film by Paulo Rocha escapes the rules imposed by the cinematography of Salazarism and portrays the malaise and the feeling of cultural isolation of young people in a Lisbon that falls short of European capitals. “O Explorador de Saturno” by Iuri Araujo & Guilherme Araújo will be the Brazilian animation short that will open this day.

The previous animation short will be by Diogo Viegas, “Josué e o Pé de Macaxeira”.
On the last Friday of the month, the 25th, “O Auto da Compadecida” by Guel Arraes will be projected onto the sheet.
