Lagos historic center will also have video surveillance

Protocol signed within the scope of the celebrations of the 136th Anniversary of the District Command of the PSP, which took place in Lagos

The historic center of Lagos will have a video surveillance system, announced the City Council of this Algarve city.

The municipality took advantage of the celebrations of the 136th Anniversary of the District Command of the PSP, which took place in the city, to sign a cooperation protocol with this police force, which provides for the future installation of a video surveillance system in Lagos (CCTV).

Video surveillance, adds the Municipality, is "a complementary tool of police activity, preventive and reactive, with the effect of deterring the practice of criminal acts, which will contribute to improving the safety of citizens and visitors".

The celebrations, under the motto “An integral, humane, strong, cohesive Police at the service of the citizen”, took place in various spaces of the city, with the presence of the Minister of Internal Administration José Luís Carneiro.

 

 

In the morning, the homage and laying of a wreath took place, with the presence of family and police elements, at Praça Sérgio Martins, head of the PSP killed on duty in 2005. Also during the morning, a mass was held at the Church of Santa Maria.

In the afternoon, with a reception by the Honor Guard, the Solemn Session took place at the XNUMXst Century Paços do Concelho Auditorium, an initiative chaired by the Minister of Internal Administration, with the presence of the Mayor of Lagos (Hugo Pereira), National Director of the PSP (Chief Superintendent Manuel Magina da Silva) and PSP District Commander of Faro (Superintendent Dario Prates).

During the ceremony, police honors were paid and the National Anthem was played, and there was still room for the imposition of decorations and votes of praise and musical animation.

 

 

Superintendent Dário Prates praised the commitment, spirit of mission and professionalism of the agents at the service of the community in the region, taking advantage of the moment to present some comparative data on the police activity of the District Command of Faro in the last years.

For his part, the mayor Hugo Pereira thanked and saluted all the work of the police forces throughout their 136 years of history, always at the service of the population to strengthen the safety and image of the Algarve.

In his speech, Minister José Luís Carneiro highlighted the work of the PSP in promoting confidence among the population and in the recognition of Portugal as one of the safest countries in the world, as well as the exemplary way in which it cooperates with other entities and security forces. , giving the success of the World Youth Days as an example.

The head of the Internal Administration portfolio also announced some of the investments by the government, namely in improving infrastructure, technological modernization and salary conditions of the security forces with a view to greater cohesion, quality and collective security.

After the session, the historic center of Lagos was also the center of the celebrations, with an exhibition of PSP media and a canine demonstration at Jardim da Constitution and Porto de Honra at Forte Ponta da Bandeira.
