The Municipality of Albufeira will have a new long-term care unit in Guia.

The contract for the execution of the construction contract was signed by the municipality and by the construction company Edinorte – Edificaçãos Nortenhas this Tuesday, August 29th.

The contract, which was awarded for the amount of 4 euros, by public tender, will be supported entirely by the Municipality's budget.

This is a temporary or permanent inpatient unit, part of the National Network for Integrated Continuous Care (RNCCI), which currently operates at the Albufeira Health Center, with capacity for 20 beds, under the management of the António Silva Leal Foundation. .

The mayor of Albufeira is satisfied with this step, essential for the construction of the new facility, which will be located next to Lar da Senhora da Visitação, in Guia.

José Carlos Rolo underlines «that this is a very important investment, in that it serves to support people with chronic diseases and different levels of dependence, whose clinical situation does not allow them to be cared for in their own homes».

The mayor points out that the construction of the equipment also has the added value of freeing up the facilities at the Albufeira Health Centre, enabling the doubling of beds, which go from 20 to 40».

According to the RNCCI, the purpose of these facilities is to provide continuous and integrated health care and social support to people who, regardless of age, are in a situation of dependence.

In a note, the municipality of Albufeira explains that «during the stay in the Continuous Care Unit, users receive individualized care provided by an interdisciplinary team, which, from the beginning of hospitalization, organizes the individual intervention plan, together with the users and / or with the caregiver in order to ensure adequate treatment and referral to their needs».

The contract requires prior approval from the Court of Auditors, and until the works are completed, the Continuing Care Unit of the Albufeira Health Center will continue to function normally.
