The company Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) has opened a new public tender for the rehabilitation and structural reinforcement of the Vascão Bridge, located on the EN122, precisely on the border between the municipalities of Alcoutim, in the Algarve, and Mértola, in the Alentejo.
The procedure was launched by IP on the 14th of August and foresees an investment of 3,7 million euros.
This is the second public tender that IP launches for this same work. The first, dated January 18, 2022, provided for a much lower investment, of just 2,2 million euros, and ended up being deserted, with no company competing.
The deadline was therefore extended, so that a new procedure could be launched, with a much more substantial sum.
Due to the poor state of the bridge, for at least two years now, traffic in the area has been conditioned and reduced to one direction, with alternate passage for heavy vehicles.
This is the main route connecting the Algarve (Alcoutim) to the Alentejo (Mértola) in this bordering area in the south of the country.
