Here comes another edition of the “Diabetes in Movement” program in Portimão

The sessions will take place from October

Recruitment has already opened for yet another edition of the community exercise program “Diabetes em Movimento”, whose sessions will start in October at the Pavilhão Desportivo in Boavista and at the Pavilhão Gimnodesportivo in Portimão.

This programme, coordinated at national level by the Directorate-General for Health, through the National Program for the Promotion of Physical Activity and the National Program for Diabetes, is aimed at people with type 2 diabetes and is implemented in Portimão through a partnership established between the City Council, ACES Barlavento of the Algarve Regional Health Administration and the Algarve Hospital and University Centre.

The sessions will take place from October and will take place during the next sporting season on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Pavilhão Desportivo da Boavista (morning period) and at Pavilhão Gimnodesportivo de Portimão (afternoon period), with the promotion being carried out by physical exercise professionals and nurses from the aforementioned health units.

«A multi-institutional, multidisciplinary and multicomponent intervention program, "Diabetes in Movement" represents an articulated effort by the community to provide a concrete and effective physical activity solution for the segment of the population for which it is intended, with participation being free of charge, upon referral by doctors and nurses from the county's health units», says the Portimão City Council.

In this sense, interested parties should previously consult their family doctor, so that they are referenced as able to participate in the project.
