According to António Costa, decentralization, at regional and municipal level, is the “true cornerstone of state reform”

Prime Minister António Costa announced today that the Government is preparing to close an agreement with the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP) for the rehabilitation of 451 primary and secondary schools.

This commitment was mentioned by António Costa in his opening speech, which opened the parliamentary debate on the state of the nation, when he referred to the measures that are underway by his executive.

According to the executive leader, decentralization, at regional and municipal level, is the “true cornerstone of state reform”.

On Friday, “we will culminate [this reform] with the signing of the agreement with the ANMP, for the recovery of 451 EB 2/3 and secondary schools”.

Regarding other measures that he said were in progress, the prime minister highlighted “the regime of professional orders, to ensure freedom of access to the profession and effective competition in regulated professions; and the separation of administrative and police functions in the management of migratory flows”.

Also in this area, António Costa noted changes with the installation of the National Anti-Corruption Mechanism (MENAC) “and the unprecedented increase” in the technical and human resources of the PJ – an investment aimed at “reinforcing the fight against economic and financial crime, such as corruption”.
