“The Fantastic Surfing World” is shown at the Portimão Museum

Exhibition brings together photos of Gonçalo Cordovil

The photographic exhibition “The Fantastic Surfing World”, by Gonçalo Cordovil, will be inaugurated on the 5th of August, at 18 pm, at the Museum of Portimão, and can be visited until the 00rd of September.

According to photographer Gonçalo Cordovil, the images that make up the exhibition «have as their central chromatic element the blue-green vastness of the sea, between deep and intense tones of marine green, dark blue, lighter and more crystalline blues of the shallow waters, to which the sky, with its variants and moods resulting from time, also lends a very special imprint, with emphasis on the range of dazzling colors, between the strong yellows of the rising sun and the reddish tones of twilight».

The exhibition «brings together real photographs of unique moments in Nature, with an abstract charisma that invites free interpretations, according to the fantastic imagination of each person, through the abstract and surreal component of the displayed color palette, in which each hue and each tonality are direct reflections of the interaction between the sea, the sky, the land, the surfboard and the photographer», according to the Portimão Chamber.

Gonçalo de Mello Gouveia Cordovil was born in 1965 in Lisbon and came to the Algarve at the age of three. Always with a special passion for the sea and the underwater environment, he began capturing photographic images from a young age, which led him to sharpen a keen eye for details and details of this unique universe.

Graduated in 1990 in architecture from UTL – Faculdade de Arquitetura, imagination and visualization of new forms are part of everyday life, through an aesthetic sense developed inherently from his academic training.

As of 2018, he starts capturing images while surfing and discovers a new world, with a dimension far beyond photographs.
