The artistic directors of JAT- Janela Aberta Teatro fly to Physical Fest in Liverpool, whose 18th edition is taking place from June 29th to July 7th, and then head to Japan.
After the success of the 2nd edition of MOMI – International Festival of Physical Theater – Algarve 2023, on the 6th of July, Diana Bernedo and Miguel Martins Pessoa, who have run the company since 2017, travel to give a Suzuki Method workshop, theatrical training developed by Japanese director Tadashi Suzuki, and participate as speakers in a lecture included in the festival's program, entitled “How do we created work?”.
The artistic director of Physical Fest in Liverpool Elinor Randle was in the Algarve capital as part of the MOMI festival, and invited the festival directors to share their knowledge in physical theater with their audience.
After this foray into England, the duo headed to Japan to work, once again, with SCOT Company, founded and directed by master Tadashi Suzuki over 50 years ago.
«Tadashi Suzuki, his company, the artistic production and the theatrical method he develops, is currently one of the most relevant and respected names in the world of dramatic arts worldwide. Diana Bernedo has been present at Toga in Japan since 2014, and this year, for the fourth time, she is part of the cast of one of the productions of the company SCOT, which will be on stage in Toga during the month of August 2023 in the schedule of the annual festival SCOT Summer Season 2023 – 41th Toga Festival», says JAT.
Miguel Martins Pessoa will participate, once again, in the intensive training Suzuki Toga Summer Camp, for three weeks, with Tadashi Suzuki and his company SCOT.
After returning from Japan, the duo will perform in Portugal with one of the five original pieces by Colectivo JAT, BullDog, and will again head out of windows on an international tour, with two other creations of the company, in Chile, Argentina, Seville, Madrid, among other locations yet to be confirmed.
For those who haven't had the opportunity to get to know the work of these two actors and directors, enrollment is currently open for the annual Physical Theater and Actor Training courses.
This will be the 7th consecutive year that Diana Bernedo and Miguel Martins Pessoa will provide training, share lessons and knowledge with professionals or lovers of the dramatic arts.
This academic year, classes will start in November and end in June of next year and will include some innovations, both in the admission process and in the final exhibition to present the work developed during the year to the public.
In June 2024, for the first time, students from both courses will have the opportunity to step onto the stage at Teatro Lethes.
JAT – Janela Aberta Teatro is a theater company based in Faro which was born from the desire to form a collective specialized in Physical Theater. A theater where the scenic artist's physicality assumes special relevance, and research into the poetic and extra-daily body is placed at the service of new dramaturgies.
