GNR puts an end to the Algarve network of hashish, cocaine, heroin and cannabis trafficking

In total, 14 men and three women were arrested and more than 20 doses were seized.

They had “headquarters” in São Brás de Alportel, but also operated in Loulé, Faro, Olhão and Tavira. The GNR dismantled, this Wednesday, July 5th, a drug trafficking network that also sold to young people. In total, 14 men and three women were arrested and more than 20 doses of hashish, cocaine, heroin and cannabis were seized.

The investigation had been going on for about a year and culminated in a major operation that brought together around 150 GNR soldiers from various detachments and intervention groups.

Speaking to journalists, António Ramos, Communications and Public Relations officer of the Territorial Command of Faro of the GNR, said that this police force believes it has dismantled the group.

«It was a structured, organized network, which already affected young people in terms of consumption and sales», said the person in charge.

According to António Ramos, the gang was also causing «some degree of insecurity in the population», not only due to «thefts», but also other «occurrences with some violence».

Within the group itself, there are also reports of “incidents”.

According to the GNR, 14 arrest warrants and 22 search warrants were complied with, 12 at home, eight in vehicles and two in establishments.

In total, 9667 doses of heroin, 7632 of cocaine, 2855 of hashish, 258 of cannabis and 29 plants were seized.

Added to this are 1,5 kilos of cutting product, a cannabis grinding mill, 15 precision scales and various items used in the preparation and packaging of narcotics.

The network also had six firearms, one compressed air gun, one alarm gun, three bladed weapons and a defense aerosol, as well as a tablet, a laptop, two consoles and videogames, gold pieces (wires, rings), 27 mobile phones and 69 euros in cash.

This was, in the words of António Ramos, an «apprehension with volume and meaning».

«Not only for its volume, but also in terms of security in the region, because there are reports of an increase in thefts», explained the GNR officer.

Within the scope of the action, two women, aged 44 and 55, who had connections to the network, were also accused.

The detainees will be present in court today to learn about the coercive measures.
