Farense and Portimonense move on in the League Cup

Algarve teams stamped their presence in the second round

Farense and Portimonense stamped this Sunday, July 23, the passage to the next phase of the League Cup, after having won the games of the first round. 

The team from the Algarve capital was the first to enter the field, this afternoon.

In a game that pitted the top two in the II Liga last season, Farense beat Moreirense on penalties, after a 1-1 draw at the end of the 90 minutes.

The Algarve scored first, at 21 minutes, through Rui Costa, in a reload after Mattheus Oliveira's shot to the crossbar.

The tie only came in the 90th minute, with a goal by André Luís, after a corner.

On penalties, Farense was better and won by 4-3.

For the Algarve, Talocha, Cláudio Falcão, Marco Matias and Rafael Barbosa (Ponde failed) scored. On Moreirense's side, only André Luís, Alan and Pedro Amador converted (Franco and Marcelo failed).

As for Portimonense, they suffered less to advance to the second phase of the League Cup. Paulo Sérgio's team won by 3-1 against Estrela da Amadora.

The first goal was scored by Rildo, from the penalty spot, in the 5th minute. In the second half, Ronaldo Tavares equalized for Estrela (57').

The Algarve took the lead again shortly afterwards, with a goal by Ronie Carrillo. The score was closed in the 81st minute, with another penalty: Carlinhos did not fail and sealed the 3-1 for Portimonense.

In the second round of the League Cup, Farense will host Oliveirense on Saturday, July 29th, at 17 pm, and Portimonense will play at Leixões' ground on the same day and at the same time.
