Scouts from Tavira head to South Korea to participate in a world camp

Grouping 100 de Tavira is the only one from the Corpo Nacional de Escutas do Algarve to participate in this World Camp

Grouping 100 of Tavira will participate, from the 1st to the 12th of August, in the 25th world camp “World Scouts Jamboree”, in Semangeum, South Korea.

The initiative takes place in this small plain of southwest Asia and will welcome around 50 scouts from all over the world.

15 Scouts from Tavira are going to South Korea, eight of whom are aged between 14 and 18, ages for which this activity is designed.

These eight young people will also be accompanied by an accompanying leader who will guarantee the correct experience in the field. The contingent of Grouping 100 of Tavira also has six IST (International Staff Team), young people over the age of 18 who make themselves available to experience this activity in a different way.

Grupo 100 de Tavira is the only one from the Corpo Nacional de Escutas do Algarve to participate in this World Camp.

The World Camp emerged as a project of Baden-Powell, founder of Scouting, after the 1st World War.

In 2019, Grouping 100 de Tavira had already participated in the 24th World Camp that took place in the USA with a contingent of 20 elements.

This time, preparations for the World Camp began in 2021, when this group met for the first time to start outlining what participation in the activity would be like, starting the planning of fundraising.

«This participation was also possible thanks to the unconditional support of the Municipality of Tavira at all times, of the Unions of Parishes of Tavira and the Union of Parishes of Conceição e Cabanas, as well as of various entities, companies and individuals», says the Group.

In this edition, the Portuguese contingent consists of over 800 scouts who will represent Portugal through the Portuguese Scout Federation, a federation that unites the two scout associations in Portugal before the World Organization of the Scout Movement, the National Scout Corps and the Scout Association of Portugal (AEP).

This will be the largest contingent that Portugal has ever taken to a world camp.
