The Chamber of Castro Marim delivered, this week, an electric elevator for children with multiple disabilities from the local School Grouping.
This equipment is «indicated for transferring people with disabilities or with limited motor skills in movement», says the Chamber, in a press release.
In terms of the transfer of Education competences (since 2022), this is one of the many matters that have passed to the sphere of municipalities.
«We are naturally focused on the best interests of the child, as well as stability and better working conditions for workers, but we cannot fail to underline the injustice that this transfer of competences brings from the very beginning, essentially because the state never guaranteed the supports physical and financial resources to develop the functions effectively, attributing to the municipal councils a responsibility that used to belong to the Ministry of Education», disputes Filomena Sintra, vice-president of the Municipality of Castro Marim, who attended the delivery of the new equipment.
The Castro Marim School Group has organized and offered, for some years now, specialized units to support inclusion, namely a specialized Support Unit for students with Multiple Disabilities and a Structured Teaching Unit for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders .
