One year later, Teatro de Palha rises without fear in Aljezur

Theater, new circus, music, photography, dance: there will be everything

The «appetite» had remained from last year. Lessons learned, security safeguarded, this time nothing will fail. Everything is ready for «great moments» at the Teatro de Palha that Lavrar o Mar organizes from this Saturday, June 24th, at the Feiteirinha Industrial Park, in Aljezur.

This year, there are many new features. This is guaranteed by Madalena Victorino, one of the programmers of “Lavrar o Mar”, in an interview with Sul Informação.

The main thing is the location: from the Vilarinha valley, where he was last year, Teatro de Palha was transferred to the Feiteirinha Industrial Park, between Aljezur and Rogil.

Bureaucratic difficulties and the risk of fire led to the shows had to be canceled three times in 2022. This year, says Madalena, nothing will fail.

«The authorizations are all taken care of, in close collaboration with the Aljezur City Council, which is helping us a lot. Being in the Industrial Zone does not pose any problems for the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, so everything is lined up», guarantees the cultural programmer.

Another novelty is the aesthetics of the straw theater, which was once again conceived by the architect Pedro Quintela.

«Last year, the theater was shaped like the human inner ear and also resembled a shell Nautilus, very old. Through this elliptical shape, the theater breathed outwards», recalls Madalena Victorino.

This year, the theater has «the shape of the uterus, female».

«When one enters, it gives the feeling of being inside a large space, separated from the outside, but Pedro Quintela made some windows to be able to appreciate the landscapes», he explains.

Each bale of straw weighs 400 kilos, but the work of building the theater, according to the architect's instructions, was once again the responsibility of Mr. Armindo Branco, who operated the machines as if it cost nothing.

In the middle of the theater will be the stage, but there will also be a bar and an exhibition space with the “Library of Strings and Knots”, project by José Antonio Portillo.

It all starts this Saturday, June 24th, with a concert by Martín Sued and Orquestra Asymptomática, starting at 21 pm.

Created during 2020, the group presents a repertoire of original compositions for a formation that includes the characteristic instruments of a traditional tango formation, but that uses these roots to go beyond the boundaries of the genre.

In addition to music, the shows by Martín Sued & Orquestra Assintomática are distinguished by their scenic and performative dimension, which immerses the audience in this unique sound, made of contemporary colors and illuminated by Argentine popular tradition.

The collective has the singularity of being formed by musicians from different nationalities and cultures such as Brazil, Ukraine, Italy, Portugal and Argentina.
