Silves reinforces annual support to fire brigades in Silves and Messines

Protocols between the Chamber and the two Humanitarian Associations of Volunteer Firefighters were renewed this week

On the 20th of June, the Council of Silves renewed the protocols with the two fire departments in the municipality and increased the annual subsidy granted to them by €20.

The agreement signed with the Humanitarian Associations of Volunteer Firefighters of Silves and São Bartolomeu de Messines «provides for the attribution of three subsidies to each of the corporations, corresponding to the attribution of an annual value of 220 thousand euros to each», an «increase of 20 thousand euros compared to the previous protocol signed», according to the municipality.

The protocols also provide for "support for the operation of the Permanent Intervention Team (under the terms of the tripartite protocol signed with the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection) and support for the operation of equipment, namely the Barracks of São Bartolomeu de Messines and Silves , and the Detachments of São Marcos da Serra and Alcantarilha (through payment of electricity and water supply expenses)».

«The agreement also contemplates the regulation of support to be granted to institutions in the field of acquisition of specific equipment and vehicles», added the Câmara de Silves.

These subsidies aim to support the activities and missions of firefighters, «who assume the municipal public interest», with «the objective of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of civil protection and the conditions of prevention and assistance in the municipality of Silves»,

The support is in addition to "measures for attributing benefits to volunteer firefighters, whose municipal regulation has been in force since mid-April 2021, and which aims not only to encourage and dignify volunteer work in fire brigades in the municipality of Silves, but also improve the living conditions of volunteer firefighters residing in the municipal territory, from a perspective of motivation, appreciation and personal and professional fulfillment, in the provision of their mission of protection and relief of people and goods».
