Portimão: Registration for the Cultural and Environmental Summer Holidays opens on the 20th of June

There will be activities at the Portimão Museum, at the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library, at the Pedagogical Farm and at the Municipal Theater

Registration for the Cultural and Environmental Summer Holidays, by the Portimão Council and aimed at children and young people aged 6 to 12, will open on the 20th of June.

In addition to the Sports Holidays, whose registrations are already sold out, the Cultural and Environmental Summer Holidays propose activities at the Museum of Portimão, at the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library, at the Quinta Pedagógica de Portimão and at TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão from Monday to Friday Monday, between 9:00 am and 17:00 pm, with a break for lunch.

Registration costs 20 euros per shift/week and can be done from 9:00 am on the 20th of June on the website of the Municipality of Portimão, where it will also be possible to consult information regarding the activity plans of each nucleus.

The registration fee includes personal accident insurance, as well as lunch, t-shirt, backpack and cap.

As for the nuclei, Holidays at the Museum, under the motto “Heritage”, present a set of activities that will make known the local heritage in a comprehensive way in some of its less monumental aspects, related to the cultural, archaeological and immaterial areas.

Fishing, archeology, cooking and intangible heritage activities will be addressed in various playful, creative and interactive activities, which will allow the involvement of participants and their families.

Guided by Professor Fátima Mártires, Holidays at the Theater include the presentation, manipulation and exploration of different types of puppets, objects and forms to animate, in addition to the design and construction of puppets and the conception, construction and presentation of a collective creation, not forgetting the guided tour of TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão.

With regard to Holidays at the Library, inspired by the theme “Literature, stories and fantasy”, activities will be carried out such as reading, theatre, dancing, painting, puppets, recycling, moulding, folding and some games , based on the story “O Pirata das Ilhas da Bruma”, by Mariana Magalhães, Joana Medeiros and Mariana Bradford.

Environmental education and sustainability will be the reference points of the Holidays on the Farm, which include role-playing activities, a workshop on emotions on sustainable agriculture and the promotion of biodiversity, as well as ecological and creative initiatives in rural areas.

Partners in this project are the Bemposta School Groups, Eng.º Nuno Mergulhão, Manuel Teixeira Gomes, Poet António Aleixo and Júdice Fialho, as well as the parish councils of the municipality, with the main sponsors of the 2023 Summer Holidays being EMARP, the Zoomarine and the Sand City.

The traditional closing party of the Summer Holidays is scheduled for 21:00 on the 11th of August, bringing together all the participants and their families at the Portimão Arena, not forgetting the dedicated team of monitors.

In a multicultural city such as Portimão, and similarly to what has happened in recent years, Summer Holidays also take place in community centers in the council districts Coca Maravilhas, Cruz da Parteira, Mira Cabo and Pontal, where socio-community animation teams a wide range of free-time initiatives, from trips to the beach and pool, to walks and various games, tailored to the characteristics of each resident population and involving around 100 children and young people who attend the community centers on a daily basis.
