The old fish market in Olhão, located on the west side of the city's Fishing Port, next to Avenida 16 de Junho, will become a space for «innovation and tasting in the area of catering», he revealed to the Sul Informação António Miguel Pina, Mayor of Olhão, on the sidelines of the Municipality Day festivities, last Friday.
«We are talking about gastronomy, but with innovation, where new ways of working with products from the Ria Formosa, the sea, but also the agriculture that is carried out in the Algarve», he explained.
The management powers over the area in question were recently transferred from Docapesca to the autarchy, under a protocol signed between the two entities.
The City Council, which already had the requalification work on Avenida 16 de Junho underway, included the renovation of the area that passed into its hands in the contract that was already underway.
The work is, at this moment, “practically completed. It is yet another riverfront that has been created there».
In addition to the avenue and the area that was already the responsibility of the municipality, the part that passed from Docapesca to the City Council was intervened, including the buildings of the old auction, in which «a first intervention was already carried out, we have already painted them, which immediately gives another aspect”.
On Olhão Municipality Day, the same day that gives its name to this artery, the city council executive also visited the Controlled Costs Housing work, «which is practically completed. We expect to deliver a good part of the houses this year».
At stake are 54 dwellings, located on Rua António Henrique Cabrita.
Still in the field of investments, a visit was made to the work on school nº 4, «which is in the final stages of finishing. We are just waiting to receive the equipment, once the work is ready. At the beginning of the next school year, it will be up and running».
There are three emblematic investments, in the area of housing, education and urban rehabilitation, which end up having a close relationship with the municipality's economy, because they promote the remodeling of housing, the rehabilitation of an area where there were still degraded properties and which will transform into a space of excellence in the coming years, even with the investment in the former Belha Olhão factory, which was sold and will become another 5-star hotel.
Other highlights of the celebrations of the 16th of June in Olhão were the inauguration of a statue in honor of the shellfish collector and the integration of 15 new elements into the Municipal Fire Department of Olhão, in a ceremony that brought together many people at the Marina, during which it was The corporation's new lifting platform was also presented.
