“Night of the Enchanted Moura” promises «immersion in Arab culture» in Cacela Velha

The sounds, smells, colors and traditions of the Mediterranean are back in Cacela Velha. It is the Festival “Noite da Moura Encantada” which takes place from the 14th to the 16th of July and promises an «immersion in Arab culture». 

For three days, the multiple corners of the picturesque town promise to transport visitors to the fascinating universe of the “One Thousand and One Nights”, providing a unique cultural experience in a stunning setting.

With the Ria Formosa as a backdrop, the event revisits the times when the Moorish population had an important role in the south of the territory, whose marks are still present today in habits, customs and landscapes.

The daily program of «Noites da Moura Encantada» will offer a variety of activities and shows that promise to delight audiences of all ages. Daily, the doors of the enclosure open at 18:00, where visitors can start by exploring the souk, an artisans' market where you can discover unique and traditional products.

Throughout the night, there will be Arabic calligraphy demonstrations.

In addition, Arab percussion workshops will be held in Largo da Fortaleza, where participants will be able to learn and get involved with the vibrant rhythms of Arabic music.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to be enchanted by oriental dance shows. Live music will also be an attraction, with Helena Madeira performing «Melodias de Al-Andalus» at Matriz de Cacela.

The street theater «The Al-Gharb Triangle» will be presented in the churchyard.

Throughout the night, different artists and musicians will enliven the streets of Cacela Velha with captivating performances. The “El Laff” group will mix oriental music and dance, while Rita Sales will enchant the audience with her tales of the Mediterranean. The show “Sufi Soul” will provide engaging scenes of oriental music and dance, immersing spectators in an atmosphere of enchantment and beauty.

To close the night in style, an oriental and tribal dance show with fire manipulation will be held at Largo da Fortaleza.

The “Nights of the Enchanted Moura” is an event organized by the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, Ibérica – Events and Shows and ADRIP – Association for the Defense of the Heritage of Cacela. Entry is free.
