Minister of Housing: “Olhão has a very ambitious project here”

Marina Gonçalves got to know projects for the creation of 364 new dwellings

The status of the projects that will allow around 360 families in Olhão to have access to decent housing by 2026 was presented yesterday to the Minister of Housing Marina Gonçalves, during a visit to the municipality.

“Housing has to be seen, more and more, as a pillar of the social state, we have to look at it the way you look at health or education. Everyone should have access to this service and the State is fundamental in this objective”, said the government official.

Marina Gonçalves' trip to Olhão began with a technical meeting between the Ministry, the municipality and the Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU), which served to “clear all doubts”.

“The projects are ready and it is urgent to move forward in the financing processes with the IHRU in different modalities and that was perfectly clear today”, guaranteed the mayor António Miguel Pina.

In turn, the Minister of Housing made a point of saying that “the Municipality of Olhão has a very ambitious investment here”.

“This municipality is located in one of the three areas with the greatest urban pressure and it is necessary to solve the existing problems. Only here where we are, there are 300 houses that will be born ”, said Marina Gonçalves in the visit she made to the old Lithography, where 300 apartments will be built.

The minister also got to know the place where, in Bairro 16 de Junho, 64 new houses will be built, to rehouse some of the residents of the area who live in less dignified situations.

“All these projects are fundamental to provide solutions for families. It is a first step, but with a very significant weight in the response that is being given. It is up to us, as a State, to be an armed arm in this work of the Municipality. We came to take stock of the situation regarding the investments that were already committed and others that are under development, also within the scope of the local housing strategy and affordable renting”, added Marina Gonçalves.

In the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), there is a support line for the 1st Right, on a non-refundable basis, and it is still possible to access financing for affordable rent.

“We are advancing with these projects along these two lines to be able to respond to families with lower incomes, to middle-class families. We have to be able to meet April in its various aspects, also in the area of housing. With our mutual pressure, we take one more step to be able to comply and have the housing ready by 2026”, reinforced the Minister of Housing.

The Câmara de Olhão points out that one of its “priorities” is “decent housing for all families in Olhão”, arguing that it is necessary to speed up the pace and move on to action.

“We had the opportunity to show the Minister the places where the works will be carried out, because it is not just seeing the projects on paper”, highlighted the mayor from Olhão.

“We also had the opportunity to visit the construction at controlled costs, which is being made for sale, demonstrating that the quality of the construction and even of the architectural proposal that is being implemented there will be the same that we will maintain in the projects of the 1st Law and the affordable lease”, guaranteed António Miguel Pina.

As for the constructions in Bairro 16 de Junho, the mayor says that “people who now live in unhealthy conditions will have the possibility of living in new houses, with all the conditions, right next door, and paying affordable rents”. ”.

The work for the 300 apartments to be built in the former Lithography should go to tender in the first quarter of 2024, announced the mayor of Olhão.
