CHUA awards execution and special projects for Centro Oncológico do Sul

It is estimated that, annually, CORS will respond to up to three thousand cancer patients

The Board of Directors of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA) has decided to award, as a result of an International Public Tender, the execution of the execution projects and specialties for the Oncological Center of Reference of the South (CORS), taking another step towards the realization of this project.

«The design company, Vitor Hugo – Project Coordination and Management, now has up to 75 days to carry out the necessary operations for the submission for approval and licensing of the awarded operations», says the CHUA.

This equipment will make it possible to bring together, in a single physical space, the possibility of diagnoses, treatments and research in the area of oncology, and represents a total investment of 14 million euros (40 percent financed by CHUA and the remainder by the Regional Program Algarve 2030) . It is estimated that, annually, it will respond to up to three thousand cancer patients.

The future equipment, installed in an area of around 5.500 square meters in Parque das Cidades, will integrate the National Health Service and will bring together all the oncology and imaging services so that the patient does not need to leave the region.

«CORS will thus bring together various specialties, such as medical oncology, surgery, radiooncology, nuclear medicine, cardiology, pathological anatomy, clinical pathology, nutrition, chronic pain, physical and rehabilitation medicine, palliative care and social support, so that the patient, in a single trip, can carry out his treatment in an integrated and multidisciplinary way», reiterates the CHUA.

The signature of protocol for the assignment of land for the location of CORS in Parque das Cidades, next to the future Hospital Central do Algarve, took place on the 13th of April, between the Association of Municipalities Loulé/Faro and the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA).
