Algarve wakes up cloudy due to fires in Canada

In the district of Faro there are seven municipalities in maximum danger of fire

The Algarve woke up cloudy this Tuesday, June 27, due to smoke particles from the fires in Canada, announced the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

The cloud of smoke particles, which initially affected the Azores, spread to mainland Portugal, as the IPMA had already predicted.

Although the sun is less exposed, the districts of Faro, Beja, Évora, Vila Real, Bragança, Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Portalegre and Setúbal are under yellow warning because of the heat until 18 pm on Wednesday.

In the district of Faro there are seven municipalities at maximum risk of fire: Lagos, Portimão, Monchique, Silves, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira.

More than 50 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Beja, Lisbon, Santarém, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Guarda, Bragança, Vila Real and Viseu are today in very high danger of fire, indicates IPMA.

Due to the hot weather, the fire danger will remain high at least until Saturday.

Since the beginning of the year, the 3.816 occurrences of fire have already affected 8.729 hectares of rural areas in Portugal.
