«It's a true poster promoting the most genuine traditions of the interior» that makes «the uses and customs of Serra do Caldeirão known». The Festa da Espiga kicks off this Thursday, May 18th, in Salir (Loulé) for three days of great entertainment.
Espiga, or harvesting from the Espiga branch, which in addition to the wheat ear is made up of an olive branch, poppy and rosemary among other flowers, is traditionally celebrated on Ascension Thursday and has been the motto since 1968 for a « very genuine party».
Starting in the morning of the 18th of May, a municipal holiday in the municipality of Loulé, the program opens with the Pedestrian and BTT Tour.
But tomorrow's highlight is the ethnographic parade that goes up Rua José Viegas Gregório at 16 pm.
In front of the presidential tribune, impromptu poems will be recited to congratulate the local authorities for a certain work or to complain or remember another intervention or reparation that still needs to be done.
This parade marks the origin of this party and includes more than 20 tractors and about 200 extras.
The parade will take place again on Saturday, May 20th, at 19:30 pm. In addition to the ethnographic representation, there will also be folklore with dances and songs by groups from the parish, namely the Folkloric Ranch “As Mondadeiras das Barrosas” and the Ethnographic Group of Serra do Caldeirão – Cortelha.
On the first night, on the 18th of May, the most popular sounds take the main stage, with Ruben Filipe and Zé Amaro.
On Friday, the 19th of May, there will be an afternoon meeting dedicated to seniors and users of institutions in this territory. At night, the poster features Jimmy P and Dj Wilson Honrado.
On the afternoon of the 20th of May, the Salir Sports Park fills up to welcome the youngest, with the Festa das Espiguinhas, where there will be a football tournament, as well as inflatables, swimming pool, traditional games, face painting, trampolines.
On this day, the main stage will receive, at 23:30, The Gift, but, before 22:00, Allcante will perform. The party will end with DJ Sunlize, starting at 01:00.
The year 2023 marks the 56th edition of the Festa da Espiga, which appeared in Salir in 1968, on the initiative of the then President of the Board José Viegas Gregório.
Throughout the three days of Festa da Espiga, there will be a lot of gastronomy, in the small taverns distributed throughout the enclosure, a lot of local handicrafts and regional products.
