Campaign against prostate cancer returns to MAR Shopping Algarve

Initiative offers PSA screenings for early diagnosis of prostate cancer, a vintage motorcycle parade and art and motorcycle exhibitions

The sixth edition of the campaign “Prevent it Like a Gentleman” takes place, between the 6th and the 21st of May, at meeting place from MAR Shopping Algarve.

The solidarity initiative is focused on men's health and offers PSA screenings for the early diagnosis of prostate cancer, at the HPA Clinic, in addition to a vintage motorcycle parade and art and motorcycle exhibitions throughout the month.

The “Prevent it Like a Gentleman” screening is completely free, it is only necessary to make an appointment in advance, via contact 302063457 or email [email protected], indicating the MAR Shopping Algarve campaign.

In the five previous editions, this initiative registered more than 1200 PSA screenings, which allowed the detection and treatment of cases at an early stage.

The aim of the action is to reinforce the importance of prostate cancer prevention and men's mental health, associating itself with the international movement "The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride", which brings together, on May 21, men and women for a motorcycle parade vintage.

This year, participants are invited to take a group tour, having as a meeting point the Cathedral of Faro, by 15:00.

The day ends with live music, with DJ RockinDad and the band Hot Billy Rods, starting at 16 pm, in the leisure area of MAR Shopping Algarve.

In addition to the screening and parade, MAR Shopping Algarve promotes two exhibitions: “120 Years of Technology & Mobility Evolution – The history of Triumph”, which is open until the 21st of May.

Some of the most emblematic motorcycles from the "modern classic" range of the English brand are presented.

In parallel, the exhibition “Re-cycle” by João Jesus will also take place, an exhibition that exposes metal works with the reuse of used parts of motorcycles, bicycles and cars.

It is estimated that, in Portugal, during the year 2020, there will be 6.759 new cases of prostate cancer. Estimates (Globocan, 2021) indicate that, in 2040, this number will rise to 8.216, which will correspond to an increase of 21,6%.

Prostate cancer is silent and often asymptomatic. It mainly affects men over 50 years of age. Early diagnosis is the best way to prevent.
