Authorities recovered today the corpse of a 70-year-old woman who was found floating in an area of the Arade river, in the União de Freguesias de Estômbar and Parchal, in Lagoa.
The commander of the captaincy of the port of Portimão, Rodrigo González dos Paços, told the Lusa agency that the cause of death is still unknown, with the Judiciary Police at the scene "assessing whether there are signs of a crime".
According to this official, the alert was given by customers of a hotel located on the banks of the river Arade, who saw the woman's body floating and called 112.
The death of the victim, of Portuguese nationality, was declared by the doctor of the National Institute of Medical Emergencies (INEM) and his removal authorized by the delegate of the Public Ministry, according to the commander of the Port of Portimão.
The Maritime Police, the Ferragudo Lifeguard Station, and the Lagos Fire Brigade were also on site.
