VRSA celebrates freedom with a tribute to the poetry and work of Ary dos Santos

On the 25th of April, at 21 pm, at Praça Marquês de Pombal, in Vila Real de Santo António

The municipality of Vila Real de Santo António will celebrate the 49th anniversary of the 25th of April with a program that extends to all parishes and includes a formal session and a musical show in tribute to Ary dos Santos.

The festivities begin with the Hoisting of the Flag and a musical parade – with the Philharmonic Band of the Cultural Association of VRSA – in the three parishes of the municipality.

At 11:00 am, the Solemn Session of the Municipal Assembly of Vila Real de Santo António to commemorate Freedom Day will take place at the António Aleixo Cultural Centre.

Em Monte Gordo, opposite the Casino, the afternoon will feature a musical performance by Zé Aníbal.

The celebrations on the 25th of April end with a musical show paying homage to the poetry and work of Ary dos Santos, at 21 pm, at Praça Marquês de Pombal, in Vila Real de Santo António.

Called «Poeta Castrado, não!», the event is produced by the Cultural Association «II ACTO» and the themes will be interpreted by João Frizza, who will be accompanied by the fado singer Alexandra.

Also part of the commemorations of the Carnation Revolution, the Vicente Campinas Municipal Library hosts, until the 28th of April, the documentary exhibition «25th of April in News».

Also on the 21st of April, the António Rosa Mendes Municipal Historical Archive will receive, at 18 pm, another edition of the cycle «Archive between Stories». The session is led by Mário de Sousa and has as its theme «Contributions to the memory of resistance to dictatorships in VRSA and Castro Marim».
