Torches and flowery streets once again celebrate the Resurrection in São Brás de Alportel

Thousands of people head to São Brás de Alportel on Easter Sunday to attend the party

Flowery torches and streets decorated with carpets of flowers once again mark the Easter festivities in São Brás de Alportel, on Sunday, April 9th.

The traditional Festa das Torchas Floridas starts at 9:30 am, with the opening of the streets decorated with flowers, followed, at 10:00 am, by the Mass of the Resurrection, in the Igreja Matriz.

After the Eucharist, the most awaited moment of the festival will take place, which attracts thousands of visitors to this municipality, on Easter Sunday: the Hallelujah Procession, where men, wielding torches, repeat the phrase: “He is risen as he said! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!".

In this festival, in addition to the flowers that give color to the torches, there are flower carpets over a kilometer long, in the streets where the procession passes.

«The Festa das Torchas Floridas involves the entire community and different generations, attracting thousands of national and international tourists who choose to experience Easter in a vibrant and unique way in São Brás de Alportel», according to the Câmara de São Brás de Alportel.

Throughout the week, the community will be dedicated to picking flowers and preparing them. In the early hours of Sunday, “throughout the night, hundreds of volunteers embark on the arduous task of preparing the flowery carpets”.

On the streets where the parade passes, the balconies are also decorated, in this case, with blankets.

In the afternoon, from 15 pm onwards, the party continues in the churchyard, with cultural animation and traditional flavors. «Handicraft and confectionery exhibitions complement the program that attracts thousands of visitors to São Brás de Alportel and brings together the children of the land who return at the time of the year with more meaning in the São Paulo community».

This is also where the presentation of the winners of another edition of the Floral Games and the competition of the most beautiful flowering torches will take place, with performances by the groups Allcante, São Brás Bailando and Bombocas.

«Festa das Torchas Floridas is once again an accessible event. In this edition, and similarly to what happened in 2019, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel in partnership with SAN – Saúde Integrativa and Casa de Repouso e Saúde de São Brás adapted a space in the enclosure through which the Hallelujah Procession passes, with logistical support in monitoring and reserving parking areas to provide better conditions for people with disabilities who participate and attend this event», adds the municipality.
