Six Algarve municipalities in maximum danger of fire

Remaining counties are in very high and high danger

The municipalities of Portimão, Monchique, Silves, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira present today the maximum danger of rural fire, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

The maximum danger still extends to six municipalities in Santarém, two in Portalegre and three in Castelo Branco.

The IPMA also placed more than 50 councils of Faro, Beja, Évora, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Leiria, Coimbra, Guarda Viseu, Vila Real and Bragança at very high risk of fire.

Several municipalities in all districts of the mainland, except Aveiro, Porto and Viana do Castelo, present today a high risk of fire.

The IPMA foresees a very high fire danger at least until the end of the week.

The fire hazard, determined by the IPMA, has five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum.

Calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.

The IPMA predicts for today on the continent cloudy or clear skies, sometimes strong wind from the east quadrant in the highlands until mid-morning and a drop in maximum temperature on the west coast.

The minimum temperatures will vary between 7ºC Celsius (in Bragança) and 15 (in Faro, Coimbra and Porto) and the maximum between 22 (in Guarda) and 32 (in Santarém).
