Writer and chronicler Miguel Esteves Cardoso was the winner of the Great Prize for Literary Chronicles and Dispersos, by the Portuguese Association of Writers (APE) and which is highly sponsored by the Câmara de Loulé, with the book “Independente Demente”, by Bertrand, announced today the organization.

The APE/Loulé Town Hall Chronicle and Dispersed Literature Grand Prize was awarded by a jury made up of António Apolinário Lourenço, Carlos Albino Guerreiro and Maria de Lurdes Sampaio, the APE said in a statement.

In the award award minutes, the jury considers that «Miguel Esteves Cardoso invented a subspecies of chronicles, in which humor and self-irony are structuring elements of reflection, personal, social and political, without this diminishing the scope and effectiveness of commentary and satire».

«Although they were published more than thirty years ago, in the extinct weekly newspaper O Independente, the chronicles gathered here were unpublished in a book, and fundamentally maintain a disquieting topicality and a contagious comic nature, within the consecrated principle according to which riding punishing mores», further justified the jury.

The Crónica e Dispersos Literários Grand Prix, instituted by the APE, with the sponsorship of the Municipality of Loulé, «is intended to annually award a work in Portuguese, by a Portuguese author, published in book form and in the first edition in Portugal, in the year of 2022».

The monetary value of this award is 12 thousand euros.

The award ceremony will take place on the Municipality Day of Loulé, on the 18th of May.
