Expansion of the fiber optic network and installation of the video surveillance system in the city of Faro will advance after the Municipality awarded the contract, on the 24th of March, to the company Soltráfego – Soluções de Trânsito, Parking e Comunicações.

In all, the Municipality will invest an amount of 448.420 euros, plus VAT, to prepare the support infrastructure and implement this
system that will make it possible to install 32 cameras in various parts of the city, namely downtown and on the main road axes.

After its installation, this system, whose implementation obtained a positive opinion from the National Data Protection Commission, will work uninterruptedly, 24 hours a day, every day a week, being operated by the PSP, allowing the capture and recording of sound, whenever there is a concrete danger situation for the safety of people and property.

To Rogério Bacalhau, president of the City Council of Faro, the award of this contract «is the result of a long work carried out in close collaboration with the PSP, which will operate this video surveillance system in key areas of the city, which will reinforce the feeling of security among residents and the increasingly visitors to our city and county».

In November of last year, in an interview with Sul Informação as part of a report on Bairro Ribeirinho, the mayor explained that the tender to place video surveillance in Faro it had already been released, but it was deserted.

Now, the company to which the contract was awarded has 150 days to carry it out.
