Five municipalities in the Algarve are now in maximum danger of fire

IPMA predicts very high fire danger at least until the end of the week

The municipalities of Portimão, Silves, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira, in the district of Faro, present today a maximum danger of rural fire, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

The IPMA also placed more than 70 councils of Faro, Santarém, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Leiria, Coimbra, Guarda, Viseu, Vila Real and Bragança at very high risk of fire.

Several municipalities in all districts of the mainland, except for some municipalities in Aveiro, Porto and Viana do Castelo, today present a high risk of fire.

The IPMA foresees a very high fire danger at least until the end of the week.

Since the beginning of the year there have been 2.083 forest fires and 7.355 hectares of rural areas have burned, according to data from the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF).

The fire hazard, determined by the IPMA, has five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum.

Calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.

The IPMA predicts for today on the continent generally cloudy skies, with sometimes moderate wind from the afternoon onwards, accentuated nocturnal cooling and a drop in temperature, especially the maximum.

The minimum temperatures will fluctuate between 07 degrees Celsius (in Bragança) and 15 (in Coimbra, Porto and Faro) and the maximum between 22 (in Guarda) and 32 (in Santarém).
