Portimão City Council and PS/Algarve mourn the death of Manuel João

Manuel José do Carmo João served as councilor of the Portimão City Council from 1977 to 1989

The Portimão City Council and the Algarve Federation of the Socialist Party released their notes of condolence for the death of manuel joao, former mayor, socialist leader and historic president of Portimonense.

In the note published on its Facebook page, the Chamber of Portimão says that «Isilda Gomes, who is in Sweden, in the exercise of her functions as president of the Natural Resources Commission (NAT), of the Committee of the Regions, made a point of expressing to the on the sidelines of that meeting, their condolences".

«In addition to being a man dedicated to football and who brought so much joy to Portimonense Sporting Clube and Portimão, it is imperative to recognize his important role at the service of our community, as councilor of this Autarchy. Anyone who knew him and had a personal relationship with him knows of his dedication to the public cause », said the mayor.

Manuel José do Carmo João was councilor of the Portimão City Council from 1977 to 1989.

For its part, the Algarve Federation of the Socialist Party expressed, in a note sent to the newsrooms, “its deepest regret at the death of Manuel João, former mayor and socialist local and regional leader and historic president of Portimonense Sporting Clube”.

Manuel João «was always a dedicated socialist militant, solidary with all his comrades and insubmissive from the point of view of political action. As mayor, he was always committed to valuing Portimão, Local Power and defending the Algarve region », adds the Algarve PS.

The Algarve Federation of the PS «presents its condolences to his family, to the mayors of Portimão and to the members and supporters of Portimonense».
