Tomas Contte (Aviludo-Louletano) wins the 1st Santo Thyrso Classic in the rain

Rain was felt along the 144,4 kilometers of the race

The rain did not prevent Tomas Contte (Aviludo-Louletano-Loulé Concelho) from winning this Sunday, March 5th, the first edition of the Clássica de Santo Thyrso. The Argentine rider was followed by Fábio Costa (Glassdrive-Q8-Anicolor), in second, and Adrián Bustamante (Kelly-Simoldes-UDO), in third.

The peloton left Vila das Aves for a very rainy first edition of the Clássica de Santo Thyrso, conditions that were felt throughout the 144,4 kilometers of the race.

The escape of the day, made up of 10 runners, was formed at kilometer 10, with the vast majority of Portuguese continental teams trying to put elements in front. This group even had about three minutes of advantage over the peloton, which was commanded by Efapel Cycling for almost the entire race.

The race situation remained the same until kilometer 80, after the first of four passes over the finish line, when four runners stood out from the group that followed at the head of the race, including Fábio Oliveira (ABTF Betão-Feirense) , Luís Gomes (Kelly-Simoldes-UDO), Alexandre Montez and Rodrigo Caixas (Credibom-LA Alumínios-Marcos Car).

Alexandre Montez would end up losing contact with the group even before the second pass through the finish line, when there were 35 kilometers left for the end of the race. The escape would gradually lose its elements, also as a result of the pace imposed by Efapel Cycling which remained at the front of the peloton until the end. The last runner to be reached was Luís Gomes, three kilometers from the finish line.

A very technical arrival, in parallel, would end up benefiting Tomas Contte, who launched the attack in the last 300 meters. The Argentine rider was the big winner of this first edition of the Clássica de Santo Thyrso, followed by Fábio Costa (Gassdrive-Q8-Anicolor), in second, with the same time, and Adrián Bustamante (Kelly-Simoldes-UDO), in third , five seconds.

Regarding the other classifications, Pedro Silva (Glassdrive-Q8-Anicolor) was the youth winner, Rodrigo Caixas (Credibom-LA Alumínios-Marcos Car) was the best in the mountain and Fábio Oliveira (ABTF Betão-Feirense) won the overall goals steering wheels. Glassdrive-Q8-Anicolor topped the team classification.
