It marks the debut of the young and promising Cláudio Ferreira as guest conductor of the Algarve formation

Orquestra Clássica do Sul will perform on Saturday, March 4, at 17 pm, at Espaço Guadiana, in Alcoutim, for the concert «Viagem Imaginária a Itália», which marks the debut of the young and promising Cláudio Ferreira as guest conductor of the training in the Algarve.

«Ah, Italy, Italy… By the time the German poet Johann W. Goethe was traveling the Italian peninsula, writing his famous book trip to italy, the concept of Grand Tour it was already an indispensable stage in the humanist education of Europeans. By that time, Italian opera dominated the continent and Franz Schubert, a young man, copied its style after a trip to the theater. He is given the motto: Here are three pieces in the best Italian style, an overture to an imaginary opera, a serenade and a love song. Written by an Austrian, a German and an Englishman», explains the Orchestra about this concert.

«This worldview ends with the equally elegant Symphony No. 54 by Haydn, a composer who toured Europe and mastered the musical languages of his time like no one else», he concludes.

Cláudio Ferreira is a young Portuguese conductor who, over the last few years, has been increasing his activity in orchestral conducting. Recently, he won the 2nd prize in the Orchestra Conducting category of the Young Musicians Award (2022).

In 2018, he edited the work Suite Africana by Frederico de Freitas, later published by AvA Musical Editions.

He holds four master's degrees in the field of music – Music Teaching, Instrument Pedagogy, Musical Theory and Training, and Conducting, the latter from the University of Aveiro, where he was a student of maestro Ernst Schelle. He also worked on his orchestral conducting technique with maestro Pedro Neves.
