Minister promises to be «inflexible» towards anomalous situations in the food sector

The Minister of Economy promised this Thursday, March 9, "to be inflexible" towards all anomalous situations in the food sector, advancing that ASAE will start a new operation today.

«We are going to be inflexible towards all anomalous situations that may occur», guaranteed António Costa Silva, in a press conference at the Ministry of Economy and Sea, in Lisbon.

The minister also added that, since the second half of last year, ASAE carried out more than 960 inspection actions and today it will start a new operation across the country, with its 38 brigades.

On March 1st, 38 brigades involving 80 inspectors from the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) were on the ground to inspect food prices in hyper and supermarkets, in view of the 21,1% increase in the basic basket in the last year , more than double inflation.

As the executive detailed at the time, 10 ASAE brigades in the north of the country, 12 brigades in the south and 16 brigades in the center region were on the ground.
